The Early Years
2006
Zeke was born at Capital Regional Medical Center in Jefferson City, Mo. on March 3, 2006.
2007
Zeke and older brother Jayden survived a week and a half without mom and dad by staying half the time with Nanny and Pop and the other half with Meemaw and Pawpaw. They started doing ‘calendar time’ so mom could have fewer questions to answer about “What day is it?”
Its all fun and games with Peanut Butter Jelly Time
2008
Zeke and Jayden got a baby sister. By this point …He would follow Jayden sneaking across the street to visit the neighbors without permission…scary for mom and dad! An addition of the backyard trampoline somewhat helped keep him near.
2009
Zeke and the family moved to Columbia to a yard… with a fence. Lots of time spent watching PBS kids and more calendar time so he knew days of the week, months of the year and all his letters and numbers.
2010
Pre-school + Baby brother. Lots of backyard sandbox time and play time in the cul-de-sac…also more trampoline time. We kept Zeke busy with reams of paper and drawing utensils. He would draw unique characters with names and creative powers. We found out later that they were Pokemon characters and their stats.
Grade School
2011
Independence Day in Seattle, WA for a family wedding. We visited the aquarium at the pier, rode a ferry tour around the sound, explored the science museum (and found a balloon tying artist) and enjoyed a flight with Uncle Kevin. Sightseeing at Snoqualmie Falls. Then Kindergarten started at home in the fall. Pokemon graphic novels during kindergarten flipped the switch for him to start reading!
2012
Zeke started summer school at the local public school in anticipation of attending there in the fall. He attended 1st grade at Paxton-Keeley Elementary.
2013
Mom and Dad would occasionally get to visit Zeke at school during lunch hour…and little bro/sis would get to play on the playground with him and his class during lunch recess.
2014
We moved to Potosi in December. He started Mrs McCoy’s 3rd grade class at Potosi Elementary School just before Christmas break.
2015
Mrs Avila, Mrs French and Mrs Schneiders 4th grade classes. Zeke joined the math team and placed at the local level.
2016
5th grade classes with Mr Fisher and Mrs Greenlee; He succeeded in auditioning and qualifying for Select Choir. He also spent another year with the math team and advanced to the regional level.
2017
6th grade with Mrs Buckley and Mrs Moyers; more math team where Zeke advanced to the state level. He also enjoyed select choir that met afterschool and performed at each grade level choir concert over the course of the year.
2018
Seventh grade summer school got interesting when Zeke began staying after to join the summer training program for cross country. The high school coach had visited his PE classroom to recruit kids to join the team in preparation for the fall running season.
Zeke ran fall cross country, made the winter boys basketball team, and then the spring baseball team.
Academically, he joined the robotics class and competed in the VEX competition.
2019
Zeke enrolled in summer school again so that he could make room in his schedule for choir. This school year began with another season of middle school cross country and boys basketball. Then when it came time to start training for spring sports, he decided to try out track as a distance runner instead of playing baseball. But we all know what happened to spring 2020 so Zeke’s track experience would have to wait.
The High School Years
2020
Freshman year In both Cross Country and Track, Zeke advanced to state competition. His claim to fame was a basketball homecoming dunk that younger students still ask to watch and other parents reminisce how awesome it was to be there to see it in a packed out gym. He joined just about every club he could squeeze in plus excelled in his academic work.
2021
At the end of January, a deep freeze settled over Washington County and seeing another wave of snow on its way, the family made a fast break for Florida. The plan was to visit grandparents until the cold loosened its grip and school resumed. We safely made it there and back before the Potosi school buses were able to navigate the routes again.
Summertime had Zeke mowing and saving up for a vehicle one day. Friday nights had the house filled with special friends that would join us for pizza night.
Fall began Zeke’s sophomore year.
2022
Just before his 16th birthday on March 3, Zeke purchased a used jeep with the money he had earned from mowing and pool cleaning. He christened it “John the Jeep”.
2023
The highlight of the year and the vacation of our dreams (so far!) was the March family cruise out of Galveston. Zeke met new friends from all over the country – one of whom he was able to see in person again over Easter break 2024.
He went to prom, attended Missouri Boys State at Lindenwood, road tripped to Florida with a Luke and his family, and rode with Katy Trail with Chris and Keaton.
2023-2024 Senior Year
Zeke’s Senior Year has been full. He achieved his goal of medaling at the State cross country meet. He MC’d the National Honor Society induction ceremony, and has continued to collect academic and athletic awards.
On December 15 he was contacted by Washington University in St. Louis that he had been accepted to the School of Arts & Sciences. Early in 2024, the PHS basketball team won the conference tournament.
He has tackled researching and repairing his vehicle, planning a senior trip with the guys, and going to prom in the same day that he played 2 rounds of disc golf in a tournament.
All his energy is going toward conjuring up the motivation to finish strong as the sunshine and warm air beckons him to the local disc golf course.
Activities
Zeke's activities include a variety of pursuits.
He is a decorated 3-season varsity athlete, Student Council officer, National Honor Society officer, and Student Ambassador. Zeke participated in Meadow Heights Church, FBC Potosi youth group and works part time for the family business: CS Design. In addition, he started and ran an online business of faith-inspired clothing under his own brand: 7th Trumpet Streetwear. For extra fun, he picked up disc golf and plays every time he can squeeze in even just a few holes at the city park.
Awards
In general, if Zeke participated in the activity, he received some kind of award.
Cross Country by far is where he received the most accolades. We would attend a school board meeting for him to be presented with awards and there would be so many certificates and plaques he couldn't hold them all for the photos.
Zeke was chosen for MAAA Coaches' team for multiple years, All-state Academic, All-District, All-Conference. And finally, fall 2023 at his final State Cross Country meet, he reached his long awaited goal of All-State by medaling on the Gans Creek Course in Columbia.
As a distance runner for track, he received many awards. His Senior season is still in progress, but so far his favorite moment was running the 4x400 relay and placing first.
Unico Bank awarded Zeke the athlete of the week during Cross Country Season.
MBCA Academic All State Selection for Boys Basketball.
